Obituary of Edward Reed JR

WESTFIELD - Edward H. Reed, Jr., age 91, of Academy St., Westfield, NY, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at home in Westfield. Ed was born on December 1, 1920 in Lockhaven, PA, the son of the late Edward H. and Maude (Glise) Reed. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. A Westfield resident since 1951, Ed had taught Elementary Art at Westfield Academy and Central Schools for over 33 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Lockhaven High School, and received his bachelor of Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He also did graduate studies at Syracuse University and the Universities of Fredonia and Buffalo. Ed was an avid golfer and "car guy". He was a devoted family man who took great pride in his home and yard. Mr. Reed had a wonderful sense of humor. Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, the Chautauqua County Retired Teachers Assoc., and the NYS Retired Teachers Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, June (Hanna) Reed, whom he married on Sept. 12, 1941 in Lockhaven, PA, his daughter, Suzette Licht of Westfield, his grandson, Donald "Joey" Licht and his wife Ann of Buffalo, NY and his two great grandchildren, Abbey and Joseph Edward Licht both of Buffalo. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Reed, his sister, Helen Monroe and by an infant sister. No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service to be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at The First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So.
