How lucky we were to have Ed Reed as our teacher for so long. His ability to open our minds while making us smile was magic. He was our own Mr. Rogers.

You opened our young eyes and minds to many wonders oflife. You allowed our imaginations to soar in color, whether it was paint, magic marker or crayon. Because of you, I have never seen the world just in black and white. God bless and peace.

Westfield Academy and Central School was blessed to have a teacher like Ed Reed. While I had no artistic talent, he was always kind and encouraging. I would like to think my becoming a museum-junkie is in part due to him. My sympathy to the June and the family. All of the Reeds are special Westfield residents.

Mr. Reed was my first art teacher, having come, in 6th grade, from Catholic schools where there weren’t any. He was funny, kind, and had the best smile. I already had an interest in art because of my mom, but he was the one who really opened my eyes to its possibilities. Both he and Mr. Koshute nurtured and mentored me and in 1962 I went to (then)Edinboro State College, their alma mater, and on to a degree in Art Education. It was a joy to return to WACS to share my students’ work with them and to thank each of them for all they instilled in me. I was the teacher I became because of them.My sincere condolences to all of Mr. Reed's family and friends. He was indeed a treasure to so many.

Dear Aunt June and Suzy, I am so sad to hear about Uncle Bud. What a funny, sweet man and such a good friend to Mom and Dad. And he leaves such a wonderful legacy in the memories of all "his kids" from Westfield Elementary. Love, Helen

To Mr. Reed's family,My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I will always have fond memories, from elementary school all the way up to when I worked at Quality, and saw him on a daily basis. Last year for his birthday, we all celebrated with him, with alumni's sending him birthday cards, I was honored to be a part of that. He will forever be in our hearts as one of the best art teachers, we all grew to admire.

An icon in miniature arts! The best lawn on the block. Finding us hidden in the canned goods cupboard. Painting his car with mud on the side away from view. Slip and Slides in the back yard. HOURS of Candyland on the livingroom floor. Chasing us out of the apple tree with a golf club. I'll always remember "Uncle Bud" !

To the Reed family...my prayers are with you. Mr. Reed was a great man, whom 40 years later, I can still recall encouraging me and fostering a love of art in me. I actually have a still life that we did in maybe 4th grade, framed in my kitchen. (My mom framed it, thinking I was up and coming). May warm memories and the peace of God get you through this difficult time.

Our deepest sympathy for your loss. Mr. Reed was our late daughter Marys teacher when we lived in Westfield. He was her favorite, although she had severe physicaldisabilities, she always said that he treated her like everyone else. He was a inspiration to her and I'm sure many others. I always enjoyed our conversations when we had the opportunities. Years after we left Westfield and bumped into him, his first inquiry was " How is Mary". Again We are very sorry for your loss and we will keep you all in our prayers

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Reed's passing.I remembered Mr. Reed as a teacher from school when we were introduced as neighbors after my husband and I bought the house next door. I have had several calls from him and his wife for assistance with rounding up my boys to go over and lend a hand at times. Even after I had moved away, and was glad to do so. He was always a pleasure to talk to when he would stroll by my house for his walks. My sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Reed.Debra Foster

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time with your loss of a great man. He was as much a part of WACS as the brick and mortar. He had a way of bringing out the best in his students with a smile and losing his thumb. Years later while working in Bell's Market he still had that same gift. He always made me smile as he shopped with his beautiful wife. My thoughts and paryers are with all of you. Rest in Peace Mr. Reed.
