WESTFIELD - Gertrude J. Eggert (nee Hoyt), 89, formerly of 8 Riley St., Westfield, died on (DATE) at Absolut of Westfield 26 Cass Street. Gertrude was born on December 26, 1919, the youngest daughter of Mary M. and Norton J. Hoyt. Gertrude, a lifetime resident of Westfield, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield where she was active in its women's groups and an enthusiastic supporter of the annual church bazaar. Active in her community, she was a Gray Lady volunteer at the Westfield Memorial Hospital and received her recognition pin for 25 years of dedicated service. She delivered Meals on Wheels, was a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader and member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #118. As an owner of a 1957 Thunderbird car, she was also a member of the Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Automobile Club sharing her love of old cars with her husband, Arthur. Gertrude, a loving wife and mother, was an avid reader and as a young girl walked from her home on Bliss Road to Patterson Library a distance of ____miles to borrow books. There was always a welcome mat out for her daughters' friends, along with a cookie jar filled with homemade goodies. She loved Big Band music from the 1940s and extravagant movie musicals. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Arthur W. Eggert, whom she married on Christmas eve 1938. In addition, she is predeceased by her sisters, Norma (Hoyt) Causebrook, Marion (Hoyt) Miller, Beatrice (Hoyt) Wiltsie and Mildred (Hoyt) Hawley-Eddy. She is survived by her daughters Betty Havryluk of Pittsburgh, PA and Brenda Brader (Denny) of Winter Haven, FL. Also nieces Nancy Wiltsie Luce of Steamburg, NY, Barbara Wiltsie Olson of Frewsburg, NY and Patty Hawley Molnar of Chicago, IL. Friends may call on (day and hours ) at Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, New York. Private burial will be held in Westfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Patterson Library, First Presbyterian Church and Society, Westfield Volunteer Firemen and the Westfield Memorial Hospital.
