Obituary of Renetta M. Evans

A Westfield resident since 1947, Renetta was a graduate of Cadillac High School in Michigan, recieved her degree as a Registered Nurse from Mercy College of Nursing and continued her studies at Wayne State University and Fredonia State University. She had been a Registered Nurse for many years and had been the Director of Nursing and retired as the Hospital Administrator of Westfield Memorial Hospital in 1982. Ree, was a veteran of the US Army Nursing Corps, where she served from 1943 to 1946 in North Africa, Italy and France, setting up General Hospitals for the US Army. Following the war she was discharged with the rank of Captain. Ree was the first woman to belong to the VFW in western New York. Mrs. Evans was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield where she had been very active in many aspects of the Church and Church affairs. She was named the first Westfield recipient of the Eta Beta Lamda Sorority "Lady of the Year" award and had been honored by the Westfield -Mayville Rotary Club in 1999 by being named as a Community "Paul Harris Fellow". Very active both civically and professinally, Ree, had been a member of the Westfield Union Relief, the WYCA Board of Directors, the Patterson Library Board of Directors, where she instrumental in establishing a Volunteer Library Service Group that is a vital part of the librarys daily operaton still today, a member of the Westfield Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, and the Chautauqua County Health Advisory Board. Ree was also a former member of the Utilization Review Board of Public Health for Chautauqua County, the WNY Society of Nursing Service and the American Association of Nursing Service Administrators. She enjoyed Reading American Liturature, music, traveling and playing bridge. She was also very proud of her Irish heritage.
