I felt I knew Mr, and Mrs. Hyde before I was ever born.....my mother was from Westfield and ofcourse she grew up with them. When we would come to Wfd in the summers from Fla.....it was always playing with Colleen on Chase street (and that big scarry hill)...then when Mr. Hyde started building the
big family home on South Portage...he would give Colleen and me a board,,,nails...and a hammer,,,and WE HELPED BUILD THAT HOUSE WHEN WE WERE AROUND 9 !!! I loved it when Colleen would tell me the story on how we were almost related!! HAROLD HYDE was a 'staple' in Westfield....a 'household' name if you may......Born and Raised in our wonderful Village...a True Authentic Westfielder, a family business that was handed down over the years. You couldn't get any more True Blue Hometown Guy ...if you tried. The GREATEST GENERATION that we've all respected for years is slowly winding down...to the end. I am already missing those WWII guys,,,and that generation that we can so proudly refer to as our parents, Mr. Hyde was so so proud to serve his Country and Hometown in WWll/ He NEVER NEVER forgot to mention each time he saw my mother (or grandfather) how he missed Leslie...his classmate,,,my mother's brother who was shot down & killed in a B-17 in WWll ...he was that type of caring individual/ Mr. Hyde,,,,my memories are FULL of spending the summers on Chase St...the big house on Portage..eating all together at the Westfield Diner (and sending the pics to Colleen)lol.........I will 'miss' my 'stop' at the Assisted Living in Olean (gosh that was fun)...I used to look so forward coming north each summer...cause I always got to spend most of it with your family. Thank you too...Mr. Hyde for always being there for my grandparents, they thought the world of you. A kind person that would do anything for his Community,..that was Harold Hyde. Thank you Mr. Hyde...Westfield was so much brighter with you~ With love to my Colleen (&Dennis) ....You're (second daughter) Cynthia
