WESTFIELD-Arland K. Hoyt, age 82, of West Main Road, Westfield, died Friday morning, May 16, 2008 at home following an extended illness. Arland was born in Westfield on July 2, 1925 a son of the late H. Perry and Mildred (Brown) Hoyt. He attended Westfield Academy and was a 1943 Graduate of Carson Long Military School of Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps serving his country from 1943-1945, and earned the rank of Second Lt. as an aviator. Arland was well known throughout the Chautauqua County area or his famous ?Hoyt?s Homemade Candies?, which he packaged and delivered to many area retail outlets. He retired in 1988 after more than 30 years as owner of ServiceMaster of Jamestown. Following his retirement, he worked part time from 1991-2006, for the Chautauqua County Meals on Wheels delivering meals in the Sherman, Clymer, South Ripley, Ripley , French Creek and Findley Lake areas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westfield, where he was active in many church affairs including, but not limited to; Deacon, Trustee and Sunday School Superintendent. Because of his love for flying, Arland enjoyed building Model Airplanes and keeping his private pilot?s license current. As a young man he had also earned his Eagle Scout Award and enjoyed Scouting. Survivors include his wife of 62 years Shirley (Dibble) Hoyt, whom he married on October 22, 1945 in Westfield. His six children: Linda Rone of Atlanta, GA, Sidney Hoyt of Westfield, Marcia Bargo of Atlanta, GA, Dan Hoyt of Alamogordo, NM, Tim Hoyt of Tucson, AZ, and Laurie Kniowski of Holland MI. Arland is also survived by his 13 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Carla Kay Hoyt, his brother Harold Hoyt and his sister Ethlyn Jackway. No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service to be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11 Am in the First Baptist Church of Westfield. Rev. Thayne Bodenmiller will officiate. Burial will be private. Memorials are suggested to: the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 9 Kent St., Westfield, NY 14787, The Patterson Library, 43 So.
