WESTFIELD - Carolyn M. (Kelsey) Gilbert, age 85, of Westfield, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Westfield following an extended illness. Carolyn was born on July 14, 1932 in the Town of Portland, NY, a daughter of the late John and Emma (Pitt) Kelsey. A Westfield area resident most all her life, Carolyn had always kept busy either working on grape farms, at the Basket Factory, the Fredonia Seed Co. or running her restaurant, the former Starlite Diner in Westfield. She had moved to Lexington, SC where she had worked for Carolina Dielectric Corp., making Fiberglass Antennas, small water craft and other Fiberglass products. She moved back to Westfield in 2000. She enjoyed Plastic Canvas Crafts, going to Bingo and playing cards. However, family was her main focus and love. She loved going out to eat with her family every Friday evening. She was an avid cook and baker whose family enjoyed her famous homemade Macaroni and Cheese. She was a loving, wife, mother grandmother and great grandmother to all. Carolyn was a member of The West Portland Baptist Church. Carolyn is survived by three daughters: Linda (Ralph) Gaszynski of Fredonia, NY, Beverly (James) Jones of Westfield, NY and Sandra (late Danny) Tucker of Westfield, NY, and two sons: James (Teresa) Gilbert of Columbia, SC, and Lovis Gilbert III of Gilbert, SC. Several grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several more great great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lovis Gilbert, Jr. her two daughters, Brenda Gilbert and Bonnie Kelley, her two grandsons, Ralph Gaszynski, Jr. and James Jones, and her two great granddaughters, Kayla Tolbert and Riyah Kirby, as well as her siblings, Howard, Ralph, Ray, Freddy, Lois, Gladys, Katherine and two Infant sisters. Friends may call on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield and again on Monday morning, October 23rd at The West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 West Main Road, Westfield, NY from 11AM until the time of Funeral Services there at 12 noon with Rev. Charles Robertson officiating. Burial will be private.
