Obituary of Charles Albert Hanks

A Westfield resident all his life, Charlie was a graduate of Westfield Academy and entered the US Navy and served hisa country from 1942-1946 during WW II. He had been co-owner of Westfield Nursery with his wife Nancy until thier semi-retirement in 1992 when they sold thier business to Scott and laurie Robbins. Charlie continued to work with the new owners until this year. Charlie enjoyed Trap and Skeet shooting at the Westifeld Fish and Game club and was active in several leagues, and had served as a Trustee of the Club for several years. Many will remember Charlie for the 21 years that he ran the Westfield Skating Rink. Upon his retirement from there, the Village of Westfield Recreation Department honored him with the Volunteer of the Year award. Charlie was also honored by the Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year and by the Fish and Game Club as Sportsman of the year.
