Obituary of Cosimina C. Gizzi

WESTFIELD - Cosimina C. Gizzi, age 90, of Beckman Ave, Westfield, NY died peacefully, Friday, November 25, 2016 at Absolut Care of Westfield.
Cosimina was born on February 27, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Valone) Vacanti.
Cosimina was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1944, and received her Associate Degree from Bryant-Stratton Business Institute in Buffalo.
On May 3, 1947 she married the love of her life for 69 years, Cedio A. Gizzi at Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, NY.
She was a faithful Communicant of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Westfield, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a Life member of the St. Dominic Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Mother's Friendship Club, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion Auxiliary, the United Senior Citizens Club, the Share and Care Center and the Chautauqua America Italian Organization (CIAO).
She had been employed at the former WT Grant Co. as a cashier and had been a teacher's aide at WACS. She was later employed by the Westfield Republican Newspaper as a proofreader and a receptionist for 16 years.
Cosimina enjoyed playing Pinochle with her friends, canning, cooking and caring for her family. She was an incredible cook who will be remembered for her homemade pizza and pickled eggplant.
Along with her husband of 69 years, Cedio, Cosimina is survived by her son Michael (Carol) Gizzi of Saint James, NY, her daughter, Paula Lancaster, of Albany, NY and her twin sons, Robert (Ellie) Gizzi of Westfield, NY and Richard Gizzi of Louisville, KY. She is further survived by her 4 grandchildren; Damon, Matthew, Benjamin, and Allison and her 4 great-grandchildren; Alexander, Joseph, Tyler and Zak.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Concetta "Connie" Abbata.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY. Burial will be in Westfield at St. James Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmont Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750.
