WESTFIELD - Charles L. Hunt, age 84, of Westfield, passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Charlie was born on June 22, 1932 in Ripley, NY, a son of the late Clifford and Elvira (Gorton) Hunt, and was raised by his loving foster mother, Mary Mathewson Volker. A 1950 Graduate of Ripley Central School, Charlie had been employed by Ford Motor Company in Buffalo for a brief time. Charlie was truly an entrepreneur and businessman. In the mid 1950's Charlie worked for and managed the former Barnhardt Service Station on Rt. 20 in Ripley and from 1956 until 1964 Charlie ran the EW Burdick Oil Co. on Forsythe Road also in Ripley. In 1964 he purchased the former Holbrook Service Station (Charlie's Service Center) on West Main St. in Westfield. While running that station he opened 2 other service stations, one in Brocton at the Main Arch and another on South Lake Street in North East, PA. Charlie was an avid bowler and owned and operated the former Country Lanes Bowling Alley in Portland. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118, was an avid golfer and enjoyed puttering around his home. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna (Houser) Hunt, whom he married on October 17, 1964 in Westfield, and by his four daughters: Sue Babcock of Ripley, NY, Renee Furman of Florida, Evonne Hunt of North East, PA and Carol Gilroy of Dunkirk, NY, and by his four sons: Daniel Hunt of Ripley, David Hunt of North East, PA, Robert Hunt of Westfield, NY and Charles "Har" Hunt of Ripley, NY. Charlie is further survived by many grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Granddaughter, Carrie Dunlap and by his 2 brothers, Harold and Kenneth Hunt, as well as by his 2 sisters, Elma Seyler and Evelyn Harris. No calling hours will be observed. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Charlie's life to be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Wm. P. Jackway VFW Post 6764, 34 Pearl St., Westfield, NY, 14787 from 4 pm to 7 pm. Memorials in honor of Charlie may be made to a Charity of Choice.
