Obituary of Samuel L. Maggio

WESTFIELD - Samuel L. Maggio, age 95, of Crandall St., Westfield, NY, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at Absolut Care of Westfield following a brief illness. Sam was born on September 12, 1920 in Fredonia, NY, a son of the late Bert and Nina (Barbarino) Maggio. He married Frances Christina on July 31, 1940 in Fredonia, NY. Mrs. Maggio passed away on October 19, 2010. A Westfield resident most all his adult life, Sam had been employed by ALCO Aluminum and retired from General Electric in Erie in 1982 after 18 years of service. He was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church and the GE Retirees Assoc. He enjoyed his family and puttering around his home. He is survived by his son, Richard A. Maggio of Brocton, NY and by his daughter, Debra Christina of Westfield. He is further survived by his sister, Mary Sloan of Peoria, AZ and his brother, James Maggio of Houston, TX, as well as by his Granddaughter, Tracey Spinuzza of Silver Creek, NY. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Sam is also survived by an extended step family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Frances Christina Maggio and by his 3 brothers, Anthony, Russell and Lawrence Maggio. No calling hours will be observed. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church at a later date. Private burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
