Obituary of Edgar M. Carris

RIPLEY - Edgar M. Carris, age 86, of Welch Hill Rd., Ripley, NY, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Edgar was born on May 16, 1929 in Mina, NY, the son of the late Gerald and Arloween (Bliss) Carris. Mr. Carris was a member of Ripley First Baptist Church, the Ripley Rod and Gun Club and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118 of Westfield. A long time Ripley resident, Ed was a well known Stone, Brick and Cement Mason as well as an excellent carpenter. He loved his John Deere Tractors, working on his land and tending to his famous Blueberry Patch, from which many Blueberry pies, muffins, jams and pancakes were made by Edgar and Meeder's Dairy. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, fish and camp. Ed really enjoyed woodworking and had crafted cedar chests, jewelry boxes, cabinetry, and clocks for many of his family. He cherished spending time with family, family gatherings, traditions and reading the bible. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ruth (Mack) Carris, whom he married on May 12, 1978. Survived by his three daughters: Brenda (Donald) Pamula of Ripley, Cindy (Richard) Kolstee of Ashville, NY and Wendy (Lino) Segovia of Ripley and by his two sons, Timothy (Linda) Carris of Ripley and Edgar M. Carris, Jr. of North East, PA. He is further survived by his two sisters: Geraldine Wilkinson and Marilyn Gilbert, both of Ripley and by his three brothers: Gordon Carris and James Carris, both of Ripley, NY and Larry Carris of GA. Also survived by several step-children whom he has raised as his own. Several grand-children and great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson due in April. Friends are invited to call at the Ripley First Baptist Church, 9868 East Side Hill Rd., Ripley, NY on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 3 PM until the time of services there at 4 PM with Rev. Donald Eggleston officiating. Private burial will be in Quincy Rural Cemetery.
