WESTFIELD - Nicholas S. "Nick" Alonge, age 90, formerly of Westfield, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk, NY. Nicholas was born November 23, 1924 in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Nicholas and Pauline (Ferretta) Alonge. He married Nora M. Emery on August 15, 1953 at St. James Church in Westfield. A Westfield resident all his life, Nick graduated from Westfield Academy class of 1942 and entered the US Army Air corps and served as a bombardier aboard the B-17's attaining the rank of 2nd Lt. He returned home and went to work at the Alleghany Ludlum Steel plant in Dunkirk, then at Appian Way Pizza and then to the Westfield Electric plant and he retired as plant manager at the Westfield Better Baked Foods in 1986. He retired as plant manager at Westfield Better Baked Foods in 1986. Upon his retirement from Better Baked, he drove a Carts Bus and sold real Estate. His hobbies include sports of all kinds, movies and walking. He was an avid card player. Mr. Alonge was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Westfield, The Fr. Daniel Early Council 3100 Knights of Columbus, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion and the Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW all in Westfield. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nora M.(Emery) Alonge , his three daughters: Cynthia (Andrew) Ippolito of Fredonia, Janice (Floyd) Metzger of Elmira, NY, Nancy (Anthony) Dunbar of Dunkirk, NY and his son: Andrew (Michaelle) Alonge of Westfield, NY. 9 Grand and 2 Great Grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his Brothers, John, Joe, Sam, and Frank Alonge, and by his sisters, Josephine Vassallo, Jane Vassallo and Francis Black. Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 5:00PM until 7:00 PM and are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Fr. Joseph Walter officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
