WESTFIELD - George Riscili, age 91, of Rt. 20, Portland, died Saturday, November 8, 2014 at home following an extended illness.
George was born on November 26, 1922 in Westfield, NY a son of the late Joseph and Concetta (LaBarbera) Riscili.
A Westfield resident all his life, George attended Westfield Academy. He had been a very successful fruit farmer in the area for many years. A US Navy veteran of WWII, George had been active in Veteran affairs and activities and was a past commander and life member of the John W. Rogers, Post 327 American Legion of Westfield. George loved the outdoors and was a life member and past Officer of the Westfield fish and game club. He was also active in Civic affairs and had been a member of the Westfield Board of Education and a two term member of the Chautauqua County School Board and the Chautauqua County BOCES Board. He was also active in Agriculture and had been a FHA Board member for several years. George enjoyed wine making, cooking, and his making his famous "Pioneer Stew". George was well known for his ability to tell a story and hold everyone's interest during the conversation. He had a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter: Dedria Riscili Wolff of Cincinnati, OH and his two sons: Steven (Shirley) J. Riscili of Westfield, NY, Daniel G. Riscili of NYC, NY. George is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Conner of Plantation, FL, Kamila Riscili of Maroneck, NY, Brent Riscili of Columbus, OH, Westley Riscili of Raleigh, NC and by his great grandchildren, Brianna, Andrew and Matthew Riscili and Charlotte Connor of Plantation, FL.
Predeceased by his wife, Annetta (Wolff) Riscili whom he married on February 10, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, and who died on August 13, 2001,and by his daughter, Kamila Riscili, his 4 brothers, Nicholas, Pasquale, Frank, and Salvatore Riscili, and by his 5 sisters, Josephine Caudell, Natalie Giaraffa, Natalina Riscili, Petrina Buffone, and Rose Riscili;
Friends may call on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 4-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Father Joseph Walter officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. James Cemetery.
