WESTFIELD - B. Jeanette (Gillespie) Strobl, age 79, of Edgewater Dr., Westfield, died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at The Lutheran Home of Jamestown, NY, with her family by her side.
Jeanette was born on June 11, 1935 in Attapulgus, GA, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Godwin) Gillespie.
Jeanette was a 1953 graduate Attapulgus High School and began her career in office management as a Civilian Employee at Fort Benning, GA in the Post Exchange (PX), where she met the love of her life, Corporal Donald P. Strobl and married him on May 21, 1955. Together, they moved to Westfield in 1957. Jeanette was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, where she had been active in many Church activities. She had also been active in many community events and causes, including the Library Book drive, which was a favorite of hers, as she was an avid reader and visitor of the Library. Jeanette enjoyed teaching Decoupage at the High Schools adult education classes, and playing Bridge with her Thursday afternoon Bridge club. She had been employed by The Chautauqua Institute, as an Accommodations Manager.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald P. Strobl, her two daughters: Vivian (Dennis) Harrison of Donalsonville, GA, and Beth (Mark) A. Bargar of Jamestown, NY and her son, Mark E. (Cathy) Strobl of East Amherst, NY. Jeanette was the proud grandmother of Brad (Linsay) Strobl of North Canton, OH, Alaina (David) Hasbrouck of Ellenton, FL, Jenna Strobl of Stow, OH, and Lauren Bargar of Grand Island, NY. She is further survived by her sister: Ellie Gordon of St. Petersburg, FL, and her two brothers, Thomas Gillespie of Tallahassee, FL, and Blaine Gillespie of Fort Myers, FL.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna K. Strobl, her sister, Mavis Johnson, and by an infant sister.
Friends may call on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend her Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield, NY with Rev. Dana Vaughn officiating. Burial will private in Westfield Cemetery.
Due to family allergies, the family gracefully requests no flowers, and encourages Memorials in Jeanette's honor be made to the Patterson Library, 40 So. Portage Street, Westfield, NY 14787.
