WESTFIELD - Shirley Elta Dibble Hoyt, age 88, of Westfield, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2014 with her family at her side at the Absolut Care of Westfield following an extended illness.
Shirley was born in Westfield on June 14, 1926, a daughter of the late Sherman and Nellie (Haviland) Dibble.
She lived in Westfield all her life and graduated from Westfield Academy in 1944. She married Arland Hoyt on October 22, 1945. Arland was well known throughout the Chautauqua County area for his famous Hoyt's Homemade Candies, which they packaged and delivered to many area retail outlets.
Shirley retired in 1988 after more than 30 years as co-owner of ServiceMaster of Jamestown. Following her retirement, she worked part time from 1990-2010, for Quality Markets and later TOPS. She
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westfield, where she was active in many church affairs especially in social events managing the kitchen.
Survivors include her six children: Linda (Ed) Rone of Atlanta, GA, Sid (Karen) Hoyt of Westfield, Marcia (Pete) Bargo of Atlanta, GA, Dan (Lerien) Hoyt of Alamogordo, NM, Tim (Julie) Hoyt of Tucson,
AZ, and Laurie (Mike) Kniowski of Holland MI. Shirley is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arland, an infant daughter, Carla Kay Hoyt, her brother Minford Dibble and her sister Laura Slocum.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening, July 22, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Wednesday, July 23rd at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Westfield with Pastor Thayne Bodenmiller officiating. Shirley's family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Burial will be private in Westfield Cemetery.
