Obituary of Jane Powers

WESTFIELD - Ellen Jane Powers, age 73, of Clinton St., Westfield, died Thursday evening, July 17, 2014 surrounded by family in Westfield. Jane was born on April 18, 1941 in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Walter and Ellen (Landers) Pomroy. She was a graduate of Dunkirk High School, attended Brown University, graduated from SUNY Fredonia and earned her Master degree in English Education from Dowling University on Long Island. A Westfield resident for more than 20 years, Jane came back to Chautauqua County from Lindenhurst, LI, where she had lived most of her adult life. While on Long Island she had been a dedicated homemaker until her children attended School and then she went to work and excelled in the working world. She had been a real Estate Agent for Holt Real Estate in Mayville for many years. Jane was an awesome cook and a wonderful mother, wife, and grandmother. She was gentle, patient and kind. She loved her family, life in general and her cats. Jane was very musical; she enjoyed singing and was a participant in the Westfield Community Chorus, and was an accomplished Pianist and Organist. She is survived by her two daughters, Ruth (David) Dougan and Sarah (Mark) Powers and her one son, James Powers all of Westfield, NY. Jane is further survived by her four Grandchildren and her brother, James (Darlene) Pomroy of Pittsboro, NC. Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Reed Powers, whom she married on August 3, 1963 in Dunkirk, NY, and who died on April 29, 2014. Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY on Monday, July 21 from 4-6PM and are invited to attend her memorial service there to be held at 6:00 pm with Hospice Chaplain, William Leslie officiating.
