WESTFIELD - Josephine F. (Rizzo) Ippolito, age 94, of Dunkirk,, NY formerly of Holt St., Westfield, NY, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Chautauqua County Home And Infirmary of Dunkirk, NY.
Josephine was born on April 8, 1919 in Dunkirk, NY, the daughter of the late Leonard and Frances (Chiro) Rizzo.
Josephine was a 1936 graduate of Dunkirk High School. She was employed by VanRaalte Garment Co., Dunkirk, NY as a Seamstress for many years, and had been an Elections Inspector for the Chautauqua County Board of Elections in the Mayville office. She was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Westfield and a life member of the Parish's Altar and Rosary Society. Josephine enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Sam especially wintering in Florida and visiting family and friends. As a baker she was known for her Italian cookies and pies.
She is survived by her daughter: Marie J. (James) Nixon of Orchard Park, NY and by her son: Andrew J. (Cynthia) Ippolito of Fredonia, NY. Josephine was the proud grandmother of; James (Michelle) Nixon of East Amherst, NY, Douglas Nixon of Orchard Park, NY, Alycia Ippolito and Vincent Ippolito both of Fredonia, NY, and great grandmother of Travis and Austin Nixon of East Amherst, NY.
She is further survived by her sister Margaret Marriott of Pearland, TX and two brothers: Joseph Rizzo of FL, and John Rizzo of Dunkirk, NY.
She was preceded in death by her Husband of 58 years, Sam J. Ippolito, whom she married on June 13, 1945 and who died on March 21, 2004. and by her 2 sisters; Stella Ippolito and Antoinette Calanni, as well as by her four brothers, Leonard, Frank, Paul and Salvatore (Sam) Rizzo.
Friends may call on Friday evening, February 14, 2014, from 6-8 PM at The MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday morning, February 15, 2014 at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Msgr. Albert Clody officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
A Parish Rosary Service will be held on Friday evening at 6 PM at the Funeral Home.
