WESTFIELD-Kathryn V. Monta (nee Vital), age 92, passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2006, in Dayton, Ohio. Beloved Mother and devoted Wife, she lived 60 years in Westfield before moving to the Gables at Singing Woods Assisted Living Community near her son, Michael in Dayton. She was born on July 2, 1914 in New Orleans, La. where she spent her formative years. Following her marriage in 1936 she and husband “Monty” also lived in the tropics in Jamaica, West Indies, New York City and Boston before settling in Westfield. She is survived by three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; her Son, Michael Monta and Daughter-in-Law, Vasso Monta of Dayton, Ohio and their three children, Niki, Chrissy and Matt; her Daughter, Kathryn Cox of Roswell, New Mexico and her Son, Wiley Cox and his Daughter Hannah Cox; and her Son, Robert Monta and Daughter-in-Law, Gayle Monta and their children Peter Monta and Gabrielle Howle and her children Victoria, Anna and Benjamin. She also remained close over the years with her AFS son from France, Jean-Pierre Ludwig and his wife Marie-Paul. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony J. (“Monty”) Monta, former Director of Engineering for Welch’s Grape Juice Company and Mayor of Westfield; by her first son, Anthony J. Monta, Jr.; by her parents, Jack and Amelia Vital; by her Brother, Jack Vital of Huntington, West Virginia; and by her Sister Ruth Jones of New Orleans. Mrs. Monta was actively involved in the Westfield community through the PTA, the AFS society, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and its Guild and Sunday School Program, the Chautauqua Historical Society and the Patterson Library. Although she moved to the Gables Community in Dayton at age 90, she was active in starting a Red Hat Society club in which she was anointed its “Queen Bee.” Friends may call at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and are invited to attend the Funeral Services at the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Saturday August 12 at 9:00 A.M. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Westfield and/or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
