Obituary of Frances M. Catalano

WESTFIELD - Frances M. (Yacklon) Catalano, age 93, of Crandall St., Westfield, died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Absolut Care of Westfield. Frances was born on March 12, 1920 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Vetillaro) Yacklon. A Westfield resident all her life, Frances was an accomplished seamstress and had been employed by the former Barmon Brothers, Westfield and Van Raalte Sewing factories. She continued to do contract sewing in her home for many years. She was known for being generous with her sewing talents and made many wonderful outfits for herself and her family. Fran, as she was known by her many friends, was dedicated to her faith and was a long time member of the former St. James Roman Catholic Church of Westfield (St. Dominic Parish) and was a life member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She had been a member of the Wm. P. Jackway Post 6764 VFW Auxiliary, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of The Moose Chapter 517 all of Westfield. In her younger years, Fran was an active woman who enjoyed dancing, bowling and roller skating. She was a fabulous cook who loved cooking for her family. She is survived by her two sons: Ronald D. Catalano and his wife Sally and Garry J. Catalano and his wife Molly all of Westfield. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack V. Catalano whom she married on November 13, 1937 and who died on June 15, 1976 and by her sister Grace Leone, her brother, Carl Yacklon and by her great great grandson, Brody Emanuel Bannister. Friends may call on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 4-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 Am at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union St., Westfield, NY with Father Joseph Walter officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Westfield. A Parish Rosary service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the MASON Funeral Home.
