Obituary of Deborah VandeVelde

WESTFIELD - Deborah (June) VandeVelde, age 61, of Academy St., Westfield, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at home following an extended illness.
Debbie was born on June 24, 1952 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late James J. and Josephine A. (Ciminise) June.
A Westfield resident most all her life, Debbie graduated from WACS in 1970 and received her degree from Graham College in Boston, MA in 1972. She moved to Norfolk, VA to join her Navy husband and love of her life, Tom VandeVelde. After his discharge from the US Navy, they lived in Ohio for seven years and returned to Westfield in 1984. She was then employed by WACS as a teacher's Assistant and retired from Chautauqua Opportunities as a Residence Manager in Jamestown.
She enjoyed reading, the beach, shopping and spoiling her grandchildren. Debbie also enjoyed traveling; she and Tom traveled all over the country on their motorcycle. Debbie greatly enjoyed her many special lifelong friends and the time they spent together. She was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church of Westfield.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Thomas VandeVelde, whom she married on December 29, 1971 in Norfolk, VA, her two daughters, Shannon (Arnold, Jr.) Selvidge of Fredericksburg, VA, and Johanna (Andrew) Kelley of Andrews AFB, MD and three sons: Jason (Tara) VandeVelde of Falconer, NY, Ryan (Lindsay) VandeVelde of Jamestown, NY, and Jamie VandeVelde of Westfield. Debbie was the proud grandmother of: Lucas, Mia, and Bella VandeVelde, Arnold III and Griffyn Selvidge, Kolton VandeVelde and Emma Kelley.
She is further survived by her three brothers: James A. June of Safford, AZ, Michael S. June of Whispering Pine, NC and Robert J. June of Groveland, FL;
Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., on Tuesday evening, Nov. 5, 2013 from 6-8 PM. At Debbie's request all other services will be private.
