Obituary of Sarah Smith
WESTFIELD - Sarah M. (Criscione) Smith, age 85, of Beckman Avenue, Westfield died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at home.
Mrs. Smith was born on February 14, 1922 in Westfield, NY a daughter of the late Peter and Petrina (Grizanti) Criscione.
A Westfield resident all her life, she was a graduate of Westfield Academy. Sarah was a life long member of St. James Major Roman Catholic Church, and was a life member of the St. James Major Altar and Rosary Society where she was active in all of the Society's activities. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a marvelous cook as proclaimed by anyone who enjoyed her cooking. She had a green thumb and always had flower and vegetable gardens. But most of all she loved her family. Mrs. Smith was a former member of the Women of The Moose Chapter 517 of Westfield.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Smith, who she married on April 6, 1947 in Westfield, her daughter, Sharon and her husband DeForest L. Ewing, Jr. of Macomb, MI and her son: Richard T. "Corky" Smith of Westfield, NY. Sarah is further survived by her grandchildren, Julie Galasso of Macomb, MI; and John Ewing of Elgin, IL; as well as by her great grandchildren, Anthony, Jenna and Ella Galasso. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Criscione of Westfield, NY.
She was preceded in death by her Brothers, Jerry, Peter and Joseph Criscione, her sisters, Rose Criscione, Angeline Messina, and Concetta "Connie" Schultz, as well as her infant brother, Angelo Criscione.
Friends may call on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield and are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. James Major Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Joseph Walters officiating.
Private burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
