Obituary of William H. Woodward

William H. Woodward, age 82, of North Point Dr., Dunkirk, NY, formerly of Westfield, NY, died Monday, August 6, 2012 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, in Dunkirk. Bill was born on May 27, 1930 in Dunkirk, NY the son of the late Hinton and Hazel (Chapman) Woodward. He is survived by three daughters: Susan (Thomas) Scriven of Westfield, NY, Sally (Peter) Cook of San Benito, TX, Sharon (Dr. Victor) Randolph of Westfield & New Milford, PA and one son: Stephen (Becci) W. Woodward of Goshen, IN. 10 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson also survive. He was preceded death by his wife, Carolyn (White) Woodward, who died on August 21, 2009, by his sister, Marilyn Brown and his great granddaughter, Grace Shebester, Bill faithfully served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. He had been the proprietor of Woodward Builders in Fredonia and Westfield for many years enjoying building and remodeling homes. Together with his father, Hinton, they founded Woodward Drive in Fredonia, NY. One of the homes was the first National Gas show home. Another accomplishment Bill was proud of involved constructing the original Sub Shop on Water Street in Fredonia which in the late 60's was something rather new. He also taught many young men the carpenter trade. Bill's hobbies included a love of restoring antique cars and traveling to shows throughout NY, PA and OH. In recent years since the passing of his wife, he has enjoyed the friendship of Marty Lautenslaker and her daughters. Friends may call on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery.
