Obituary of R. Peterson

R. Larry Peterson, age 71, of Scandia Dr., Bemus Point died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at home following a brief illness.

Larry was born on August 14, 1935 at Wetmore Twp., PA the son of the late Robert and Mary (McCool) Peterson.

A graduate of Westfield Academy Class of 1953, Larry enlisted in the US Army, attended West Point Military Academy and was a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne.

Larry attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, graduating with a B. S. degree in 1961. After graduation he became interested in actuarial work. He passed the examinations, attaining Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 1970. Thereafter, Larry earned the designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter and was a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. He retired from insurance work in 2004.

His years as an actuary included service with several companies. He and his family for sixteen years in Concord, NH and returned to Western NY in 1987. He had been an Instructor of Mathematics at JCC for the past few years. One of the high points of life in western New York has been the opportunity to work as a volunteer crewmember on the Brig Niagara for five years.

He was a member of and active with, St. Timothy Lutheran Church of Bemus Point, The Niagara League, Jamestown Audubon Society, and the West Point Academy "Band of Brothers-59". Larry enjoyed hiking, nature photography, reading, and most of all his family.

He is survived by his wife: Myrt L. (Rogers) Peterson, whom he married on April 24,1959 in Westfield, NY. his three daughters: Lizbeth (Michael) Taylor of Saudi Arabia, Jennifer (Mark) Thomas of Waldorf, MD, Stephanie (Prakash) Thomas of Poway, CA and one son: Matthew (Lupe) Peterson of Fuquay Varina, NC. He is also survived by his one sister: Dorothy Hayward of Lyman, SC and one brother: Vernon "Monty" Peterson of Greensboro, NC as well as 9 Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Daughter, Amy Peterson in 1977.

No calling hours will be observed. The funeral service will be Saturday at 2:00 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 3748 Rt. 430, Bemus Point with Rev. Jeff Silvernail officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Concord, NH.
