Obituary of Betty G. Storms

WESTFIELD - Betty G. Storms , 94 , formerly of Kent Street, died peacefully Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on May 7, 1917, daughter of the late Frederick and Agnes Galbraith. As a young child Betty moved to Wilson, N.Y. with her family. She graduated from Wilson High School and then enrolled in the E . J. Meyer Memorial Nursing School , a branch of the University of Buffalo, specializing in the field of nursing. She graduated in 1937 and worked in hospitals in Buffalo and Lockport, N.Y. On August 8, 1940, she married Dr. Robert E. Storms in Lockport, N.Y. and moved to Westfield where they worked together in the medical practice until his death in 1983. And later in life she married Rev. William L. Bailey who died in 1999. Betty was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, PTA President, Union Relief, N.Y.S. Nurses Association, and the Medical Auxiliary of Chautauqua County. In September of 2003 she moved to Springhill Senior Living Community in Erie, PA. She was a resident there until February 2010, when she relocated to Memory Gardens in Lakewood, N.Y. , and as of August of 2011, she found peace at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk,N.Y. She is survived by a son, E. Judson (Sharon) Storms of Westfield, a daughter Joan (George) Leopold of Mayville; two grandchildren, Michael Leopold and Beth Leopold,DVM; and three great-grandchildren; Emily, Claire and Luke Burgess. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, F. Andrew Galbraith. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield at 1:00 pm. with Rev. Virginia Carr, Rector, officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parish hall entering from the Elm Street side entrance. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date at the Westfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Betty's memory to St. Peter's Episcopal Church 12 Elm Street, Westfield, N.Y. 14787; the Patterson Library, 40 South Portage Street, Westfield, N.Y. 14787; the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, N.Y. 14701, or to a charity of choice.
