WESTFIELD - Alice S. (Starkweather) Chapman, age 86, of So. Water St., Westfield died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA following a brief illness. Alice was born on March 2, 1925 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Jay D. (Dascomb) and Mary L (Hill) Starkweather. . A Westfield resident all her life, she was a 1943 graduate of Westfield Academy. Alice had been employed as a secretary by the School Business Office, the former Planters Coop., the former Ottaway Law Office and Insurance Co., and for Lazarus Department Stores in Columbus, Ohio. She was a "short hand shark" and excellent typist. She assisted her late husband Glenn Chapman, as a bookkeeper and salesperson for his lawn mower and small engine business. She wintered in Zolfo Springs, Florida from 1980 up until 2006. Alice enjoyed crocheting and big band music. Active in her Church, Mrs. Chapman was a 73 year member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield and a Deacon of the Church. She was a Life time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and a Life time Member of the Chautauqua Lake region AACA. She is survived by her two children, Charlene (Noble) Woodlee and her husband Alan, and Daniel Chapman and his wife Susan all of Westfield. She was the proud grandmother of Debra Woodlee of Westfield, Rev. Scott (Christine) Woodlee of Franklin, PA;, Mary Jo (Walter) Apthorpe of Cassadaga, NY and Glenn Chapman of Westfield. She is further survived by five Great Grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles R. Noble and her second husband, Glenn Chapman. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, from 4-6 PM at the MASON FUNERAL HOME 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, and are invited to attend the Funeral Services there on Wednesday morning at 11 am with Rev. Scott Woodlee, her grandson, officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So.
