Rose Marie LaPorte
Rose M. LaPorte, 88, of Westfield, NY passed away peacefully on Sat., June 29, 2024 at
Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Greenhurst, NY. Rose was born on May 5,1936 in Westfield, NY, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Guarneri) LaPorte. She was a life-long resident of Westfield.
Rose graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School, then went on to graduate from WCA Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown, NY.
Rose began her nursing career at Westfield Memorial Hospital in the Operating Room, Emergency Room and Maternity Ward, where she was employed for 20 years. For the next 8 years, she was a nurse for Robert E. Storms, MD, then office manager/nurse for William F. Clayton, MD until her retirement in 2002. During that time she was also a part-time nurse for Robert D. Kummer, MD of Mayville, Fidel R. Ramos, Jr., MD and Russell S. Elwell, MD of Westfield.
Rose was also an insurance examiner for major insurance companies in New York state, covering a 30-mile radius.
Rose was a life-time member of Lakeshore Assembly of God in Westfield, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and the church photographer, was a member of the church choir and a faithful volunteer in many areas.
She was also a past member of the Loyal Order of Women of the Moose Chapter 517 and a volunteer at Westfield Memorial Hospital.
She loved shopping, gardening, photography and enjoyed collecting recipes and cooking, yard sales, reading, puzzles and always looked forward to Florida vacations.
Besides her mother and father, Rose was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Cathy LaPorte; brother, Samuel LaPorte; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Nick Ficarra; and sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Tony Chiodo.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Della (LaPorte) Griffin of Erie, PA and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY on Wed., July 3 from 11am to Noon, and are invited to attend a service there at Noon with Pastor Vinny Sanzo officiating. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in Rose’s memory be made to Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 East Main St., Westfield, NY 14787.
