Obituary of Lawrence Morton JR

WESTFIELD - Lawrence E. Morton, Jr., age 88, of East Rt. 20, Westfield died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at home following an extended illness. Lawrence was born on May 13, 1922 at Spring Creek, PA the son of the late Lawrence P. and Inez (Webb) Morton. Born and raised in Corry, PA, he was a graduate of Corry Area High School and a Veteran of the US Army Air Corp during WW II where he served with the 466 Air Service Squadron of the 7th Air Force. Interested in mechanics his whole life, Mr. Morton had co-owned a service garage in Corry with his late father for several years after returning home from the war. He had been employed by several area service garages and dealerships that included the former Waterhouse Garages in both Corry, PA and Mayville, NY and the former Edwards Chevrolet in Westfield. He retired from the Westfield Academy and Central Schools as Head Bus Mechanic in 1985 after many years of service. He enjoyed Gospel Music, his Church and tinkering with anything mechanical. His wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of his life. Mr. Morton was a member of West Portland Baptist Church, where he was very active as a Deacon and a teacher of the young people's class. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gladys (Hotchkiss) Morton, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1942 in Winchester, VA, his three daughters: Loretta (Albert) Beckrink of Corry, PA, Lugene (Gary) Folz of New Berlin, NY and Laura (Tedd) Wilkins of Westfield, NY, his 6 grandchildren: Alisa (Rod) Puckly of Corry, PA, Kevin Vanderhoof of Lancaster, PA, Pamela (Gary) Henry of Dewittville, NY, Amanda (Jason) Pacanowski of Derby, NY, Robert Folz of Lancaster, PA and Ryan Folz of Palm Beach, FL and 7 Great Grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister, Juanita Vanderhoof and his brother, Harold Morton No calling hours will be observed. The Funeral Service will be Friday afternoon, May 13, 2011 at 2:00PM at the West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 West Main Road, Westfield with Rev. Ryan Grafton officiating.
