Obituary of Daniel C. Riedesel

WESTFIELD - Daniel C. Riedesel, age 61, of Washington St., Westfield, was called home to his Lord on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at home surrounded by his family, following a three year battle with Cancer.
Daniel was born on June 12, 1949 in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Arthur P. Riedesel and Virginia M. (Haskin) Riedesel, of Eustis, Florida.
Dan was a Westfield resident most all his life, having lived in Mayville, Dunkirk and Fredonia, prior to returning to Westfield in 1996. He graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School with the class of 1968 and enlisted in the US Air Force. He volunteered to serve in Vietnam attaining the rank of sergeant. Following his return, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Meyers on June 2, 1973 in Westfield, NY.
Dan had been employed by, Mogen David Wine Corp. in Westfield and later went on to Fieldbrook Farms Ice Cream in Fredonia where he retired from in 2008 after 25 years of service. He enjoyed collecting model cars, NASCAR and #24 Jeff Gordon, The New York Yankees, as well sports of all kinds.
A devoted Christian, Dan loved reading his bible and spending time with friends and family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren, each of whom he loved dearly. Dan's family wishes to express their gratitude to his "2nd family" at the VAMC in Buffalo. The Doctors and Nurses there had taken exceptional care of Dan for the last 3 years.
Mr. Riedesel was an active member of Lake Erie Baptist Church of Brocton; he loved his church and church family. He was also a member of the John W. Rogers Post 327, American Legion, of Westfield.
Besides his Mother of Florida, he is survived by his wife: Elizabeth (Meyers) Riedesel, his daughter: Kathryn Crespo of Fredonia, his three sons: John Riedesel of Carthage, NC, Kenneth Riedesel of Falconer, NY and Mark Riedesel of Dunkirk, NY. Dan was the proud grandfather of: Holly and Lydia Riedesel, Alyssa, Forest and Sean Crespo, Luke, Kira and Matthew Riedesel.
He is further survived by his two brothers: Paul Riedesel of Canandaigua, NY and Ricky Riedesel of Eustis, FL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, his sister, Susan Lynn Riedesel and his brother John W. Riedesel.
Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 4 - 6 PM and again on Monday morning from 10 AM until the time of services there at 11 AM with Rev. Gary Nutt officiating, followed by Military Honors. Private burial in Westfield Cemetery.
