Obituary of Grace Carmela Gugino

WESTFIELD - Grace Carmela (Marino) Gugino, age 76, of Holt Street, Westfield died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at home following an extended illness. Carmela was born on July 3, 1934 in Varapodio, Italy, the daughter of the late Dominick and Mary (Falleti) Marino. A Westfield resident since 1950, she immigrated to Westfield from Varapadio, Italy. From 1950 until 1952 she had been employed by the former Lachiusa Dry Cleaners. She then became employed by the former Barmon Brothers Sewing Factory in Westfield from 1952 until it closed under different management in the 1990's. She was an accomplished professional seamstress. She continued to do alterations in her home up until health no longer allowed her to do so. She enjoyed working in the family vineyard, traveling, bowling, sewing and cooking for her family. She returned to Italy several times to visit family and vacation. Carmela was devoted to her family and her Church. Mrs. Gugino was a member of the St. Dominic Altar and Rosary Society, St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church and the ILGWU of America, Local 280. She is survived by two sons: Daniel Gugino of Rockville, MD, and Russell Gugino of Douglasville, GA, one sister, Connie (Tony) Cash of Westfield, NY and one brother, Vincent (Nancy) Marino of Ventimiglia, Italy. She was the proud grandmother of Michele (Patrick) Spaulding of Cheektowaga, NY, Max Reynolds and Maren Reynolds of Leesburg, VA. Carmela was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony C. Gugino, whom she married on May 30, 1964 and who died on July 1, 2008. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield with Father Marius J. Walter officiating.
