Obituary of Flavia Fern Callahan

WESTFIELD - Flavia Fern (Smee) Callahan, age 91, of Villa Drive, Westfield, formerly of Grand Rapids, Michigan, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at home in Westfield. Flavia Fern Smee was born on July 13, 1919 in Buchanan, Michigan the daughter of the late George and Nellie (Scott) Smee. She married Russell Callahan on June 29, 1946. He predeceased her on December 18, 2004. She graduated from Grand Rapids Central High School and Davenport Business College and had been employed by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) as an Executive Secretary retiring in 1978 after 26 years of service. Together with her late Husband, Russell, she came to Westfield to be close to their daughter. She was a former member of the Beverly Reform Church of Wyoming, Michigan. Fern enjoyed watching Animal Planet and bird watching. She loved chocolate! She is survived by one daughter: Bonnie Strattan of Westfield, with whom she made her home, Her Granddaughters, Sarah Strattan of Brocton, NY and Anna Strattan of Endicott, NY, and her Great Granddaughters, Sarah's children, Megan and Mason. She is further survived by her sister Marceline Foote of North Andover, MA Besides her husband Russell G. Callahan, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Collins and her brother, Jon Smee. In keeping with her wishes, all services will be private and held in Michigan with burial to be in Rosedale Memorial Park.
