Marilyn Kent Norton, 97, of Lakewood, NY formerly of Westfield, NY passed away Wednesday evening November 24, 2021 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Gowanda, NY.

She was born on November 24, 1924 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of the late Earl and Cecilia (Neis) Kent. She married John E. Norton on June 16, 1951 in Rochester, NY and he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1983.

She is survived by three sons, Emmett V.  (Helen) of Woodstock, VT, John Douglas (Cindy) of Dewittville, NY and Kevin C. Norton of Boston, NY; four cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Kristina), Andrew (Montanna Pope), Sean and Erin Norton; a sister, Joann Schlieter of Rochester, NY. Marilyn was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kent, a brother-in-law, Robert Norton, and a sister-in-law Sister Maria Rosaire (Margaret Norton).

She was a 1942 graduate of Charlotte High School in Rochester, NY; and continued her education at R.I.T. in Rochester, NY earning a degree in Merchandising. She worked for Sibley’s Department Store for many years as a buyer, Lindsey & Curr, and the National Clothing Co., all located in Rochester, NY.  In addition she was a Merchandising Coordinator for the Westfield Department Store in Westfield and the Village Shop of Fredonia and was a reading aide for the Ripley School District.

Her memberships included St. Dominic’s R.C. Church, where she was very active in the Altar & Rosary Society, former member and officer of the Union Relief Association, Westfield Garden Club, Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, St Joseph School for Exceptional Children, Patterson Library, Charter member of the Patterson Society, Red Cross Grey Lady Westfield Memorial Hospital, Committee member for the Handicapped of Westfield Academy & Central School.

Marilyn enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.

As per Marilyn’s wishes services were private, interment was in the St James Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Marilyn’s memory to the Patterson Library, 40 S. Portage St., Westfield, NY 14787 or Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY.
