Obituary of Abbie C Cardy

Abbie C. Cardy, 74, of Westfield, NY passed away on Saturday morning October 30, 2021 at her home with her loving family at her side.

She was born on February 12, 1947 in Erie, Pa the daughter of the late Charles and June (Blessing) Corcoran, she married Wayne R. Cardy on July 27, 1968 at the St. James R.C. Church in Westfield, NY.

Abbie is survived by two beloved children, Elizabeth “Libby” (Christopher) Cardy- Sciarrino of Westfield and Brenna (Nathan) Gibson of Rochester, NY; two cherished granddaughters, Farren and Nealla Gibson; step-mother, Frances Corcoran of Rochester, NY; two step-sisters, Michele (Daryl) Hunt of Argyle, NY and Cynthia (Doug) Patterson of Rochester, NY; a step-brother, Aron (Pam) Samonia of Sumter, S.C.; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Corcoran.

Abbie was a 1965 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, she attended Nazareth College in Rochester where she studied speech pathology. She was employed by the Westfield Republican as a proof reader, worked in Home Daycare for many years and for Belknap Business Form Inc. She served on the Board of Directors of the YWCA in Westfield for 20 years in various capacities was also the Executive Director for several years and received the Distinguished Woman of the Year Award in 1998.

Abbie enjoyed being actively involved in her community and loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by friends and family.

Friends and family may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield, NY on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 4-7 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Elm St. Westfield, NY at 11 AM with Fr. Jim Clement officiating. Interment will be at St James Cemetery.
