WESTFIELD - James A. Northrop, age 75, of Union St., Westfield died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at home following an extended illness. Jim was born on January 8, 1935 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late James A. and Mary Lou (Quigley) Northrop, Sr... A Westfield resident since 1954 he had been employed by Renold Inc. in the Engineering Dept. for 32 years retiring in 1997. Jim was a former member of the Citizens Hose Co. #2 of the Fire Dept of Westfield for many years and was a member of the Fireman's Exempt Assoc. He served as Asst. Chief of the Dept. for 3 years. Jim enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, and taking care of his home and yard. He had been a social member of the VFW, and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #118 of Westfield. He is survived by his wife: Janice E. (Button) Northrop, whom he married on April 15, 1961 in Westfield, his daughter: Suanne Work and her husband John of Westfield, NY and his son: Michael Northrop and his wife Denise of Kenmore, NY. Jim was the proud grandfather of John D. Work, II of Westfield, Joshua Fisher of North East, PA and Candice Hogan of Kenmore, NY. He is further survived by his two sisters, Judy Cash and Jane Parker both of Westfield. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Jerry and John Northrop, and by his sister, Mary Grace Northrop. Friends may call at the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 12 Noon until the time of Services at 2:00 PM with Rev. Matthew Golibersuch officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, 189 East Main Street, Westfield, NY 14787 or to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmont Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
