Obituary of Arlene C. Ricketts

WESTFIELD - Arlene C. (Newton) VeStrand Ricketts, age 87, of Cottage Street, Westfield died unexpectedly, Friday, February 5, 2010 at home. Arlene was born on May 12, 1922 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred (Anderson) Newton. Arlene had been employed as a Seamstress by the former Westfield Sewing Factory until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed Knitting, crocheting and going on walks. She had been a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield for most all her life. Following the death of her first husband, Robert VeStrand in 1984, Arlene married Joseph D. Ricketts on April 13, 1991. Mr. Ricketts also predeceased her in 2007. Mrs. Ricketts was a member of Wm. P Jackway Post 6764 VFW Auxiliary of Westfield, and the Gold Star Mothers. She greatly enjoyed and loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her three sons: Allen (Chris) VeStrand of Westfield, Ralph (Jean) Vestrand of Minerva, OH, and Rannie (Gail) VeStrand of Burlington, VT, as well as by her grandchildren, Kathleen Burns, Nancy Becker, Jeffrey VeStrand, Sherri Cochran, Mark Vestrand, Robert Vestrand, Elizabeth McCormick, Diane Vestrand, Rannie Dale VeStrand, Shawn VeStrand,and Christine Emerson. Arlene is also survived by many great grandchildren. Besides her first husband Robert and her second husband Joseph, Arlene was preceded in death by her son, Robert Dean VeStrand in 1949, her grandson, Ralph Austin Vestrand, her brother, Andrew "Sonny" Newton, and her sister, Ellen Carolyn Anderson. No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invite to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, Feb, 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of The First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield with Rev. Stephen Morse officiating. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church and Society Of Westfield, 49 So.
