WESTFIELD - Charlotte E. (Keopka) Guest, age 86, of Spring Street, Westfield died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Brooks Memorial Hospital, in Dunkirk, following a brief illness.
Charlotte was born on March 27, 1923 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Roy and Marguerite (Waterman) Keopka. Charlotte was a lifelong resident of Westfield. Upon graduation from Westfield Academy, she worked for the May Co. in Colorado for several years. During WW II she was a plane spotter and a bandage roller. While in Westfield, she had been employed as Secretary and Receptionist for the late Dr. Robert Storms. Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Society, where she had been very active in Church affairs and activities. She also volunteered at the Patterson Library. Charlotte had also been active with The Order of the Eastern Star, having held all offices and had been District Deputy Grand Matron. She was a 79 year member of the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the 40 & 8 Club. She had been named Woman of the Year by the YWCA of Westfield.
She is survived by her daughter: Julia M. Guest of Hamburg, NY and her son: Jeffrey R. (Mindi) Guest of Westfield, NY. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Brian A. Murphy of Westfield, NY, James E. Murphy of Portland, NY, Erin R. and Kathryn C. Guest both of Westfield, NY; and her great grandchildren, Marissa and Matthew Murphy of Pensacola, FL, Michael J. Murphy of Jamestown, NY, Brianne Murphy and Alexis Grapes both of Portland, NY.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer J. Guest whom she married in February of 1949 and who died in August of 1995, and by her son Thomas W. Guest, and her sister, Mary Appel.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield, NY, with Rev. Stephen Morse officiating. Friends will be received in the Sanctuary for 1 hour prior to the service and immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private in Westfield Cemetery.
