Obituary of Elizabeth Penharlow

WESTFIELD - Elizabeth B. Penharlow [Betty] of Craftsbury and Greensboro, VT, formerly of Westfield, NY, died on Sept. 18, 2009, after a brief illness at the Greensboro Nursing Home. Betty was born on November 29,1914, the dauaghter of Paul H. and Maude Wilson Brown in Buffalo, NY. Betty grew up in Buffalo but had ties to Barcelona. Her grandparents settled in Barcelona after arriving from Germany and then they moved to Buffalo. She married Maurice Penharlow of Portland on June 2, 1943, and lived in Westfield until 2002 when she moved to VT after the passing of her husband. Betty was an active homemaker. She developed life-long friendships working for 28 years in the cafeteria of WACS. She was an active member of Eastern Star having held several offices. She had a long association with Girl Scouts in Chautauqua County. After her retirement, she enjoyed water aerobics at Welch Field and Brocton pool, being part of the UMW at the First Methodist Church and serving her community when the need arose. For many years she and Maurice helped in the food pantry at the Methodist Church. Betty was please to be the 1990 "Lay Person of the Year" for the Methodist Church. She was also honored as the Community Neighbor in the March 1991 issue of the Westfield Republican. Betty is survived by her dauaghter Carol Marino of Endicott; her son Ronald [Susan] of Barton, VT; two granddaughters, Megan [Frank] of Hooksett, NH; and Kimberly of NYC; a grandson Joseph Marino [Kelly] of Bradenton, Florida; and three great grandchildren, Ryan, Deven and Melea. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Westfield on Thurs., October 8 at 1 pm. The family will meet friends after the internment in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Food Pantry, First United Methodist Church, 101 E.
