Obituary of Mary R. Baideme

WESTFIELD - Mary (Ricotta) Baideme, age 90, of Route 5, Westfield died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Absolut Care of Westfield, following an extended illness. Mary was born on September 15, 1918 in Fredonia, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Rose (Borzilleri) Ricotta. She is survived by three sons: Richard Baideme of Omaha, NE, Joseph (and Donna) Baideme of Greenville, SC, Thomas Baideme of Westfield, NY; two sisters: Lucille (and Thomas) Castellana of Fredonia, NY, Angeline Porpiglia of Silver Creek, NY; 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Baideme, whom she married on August 4, 1945 and who died on May 1, 2002; her son, David A. Baideme; her two brothers, George and Albert Ricotta and her sister Frances Ricotta. Mrs. Baideme was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. James Major), a life-time member of the St. Dominic Altar and Rosary Society, and a member John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours to her church, her community and to the local nursing home in Westfield. She helped her husband operate the Baideme family farm on Route 5 in Westfield all her married life. Mary's happy and generous spirit was shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a great love of flowers, music, gardening and dancing. Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church (formerly St. James Major), 15 Union Street, Westfield with Father Marius J. Walter and Mary's nephew, Father Joseph Porpiglia officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the David A.
