Obituary of Paul Gilbert SR

Paul F. Gilbert, Sr., age 67, of Central Ave., Brocton died Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie following a brief illness. Paul was born on November 16, 1941 in Westfield, NY, a son of the late Lovis, Sr. and Ruth (Miller) Gilbert. A Chautauqua County resident most all his life, he attended Westfield Schools and graduated from Tractor Trailer driving School in Buffalo. He had operated the former Theater Restaurant in Westfield for many years and retired after working on the Northrop and Woleben Farms. He enjoyed gardening, both vegetable and floral. Paul was well known for his baking, especially his breads, Grape pies, cheese cakes and pizza. He enjoyed classic country music, dancing, round , square and line dancing, He enjoyed Cribbage, Bird watching, camping with bonfires, and he was known as a "Ford Man". However, Paul's main love was his family and his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the LOOM # 118 of Westfield and the Wm. P. Jackway VFW Post 6764 Social Club. He is survived by his three daughters, Melody (Gerry) Pierce of Stockton, Joanne (John) Gilbert-Hopkins of Mayville, and Terri (Byron Gens) Gilbert of Westfield, and his two sons: Paul Gilbert, Jr. of Cassadaga, and Michael (Tina) Gilbert of Mayville, and by his 11 Grandchildren, Amanda, Aaron, Stefani, Machele, Arica, Joshua, Ashley, Nicol, Daniel, Sierra and Breanna and his 8 Great Grandchildren, Hunter, Felix, Brayden, Keira, Aidyn, Amaya, Isabella and Natalie. Paul is further survived by his five brothers: Lovis Gilbert, Jr., and Richard Gilbert, Sr., both of Westfield, Robert Gilbert, Sr., and Ronald Gilbert, Sr. both of Ripley and Raymond Gilbert, Sr., of Mayville. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Kenneth Gilbert, Sr., and Miley Gilbert, Sr. and his two sisters, Mary Ann Walters, and Betty Pierce. Friends may call at the West Portland Baptist Church, Rt. 20, Portland, NY, on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 11 am until the time of services there at 1 PM with Rev. Gary Henry officiating. Private burial will be in Westfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O.
