Obituary of Lois M Karrow
Lois M. Karrow, 95, of Westfield, NY passed on Tuesday morning, May 4, 2021 at her residence.
She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa on August 3, 1925 the daughter of the late Lawrence and Frances (Kuntz) Kerstein. On May 5, 1951 she married William Karrow in Pittsburgh, Pa and he preceded her in death May 17, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet (James) Wolf of Denver, CO and Donna DiPietro of Clifton Park, NY; a son, William “Bill” Karrow of Westfield, NY; a sister Joan Ruffner of Pittsburgh, Pa; six cherished grandchildren, Casey (Christine) Wolf, Bridget (Gary Zancanelli) Wolf, Matthew (Jennifer) Killion, Eric DiPietro, Sara (Charles) Russ, John (Ashton) DiPietro and eleven great grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her beloved husband of 48 years, William “Bill” Karrow, Lois was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Kerstein and Doris Kennedy.
Lois was a graduate of Schenley High School, “Class of 1943”. She was an active member of the Westfield community. She served on the board of the Westfield Youth Recreation, instructor and skate guard at the Westfield Ice Rink. Lois helped at the Westfield Soup Kitchen and was the recipient of the 2005 Presidents Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush. She also was a Boy Scouts Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. Lois was a devoted and active member of the former St James Major RC Church/ St Dominic RC Church in Westfield. She participated with the Altar & Rosary Society, Catholic Charities, taught religious education and was a former Teacher of the Year.
Lois was an accomplished athlete, she taught water aerobics at the Westfield Welch Pool, enjoyed swimming, ice skating, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, sewing and reading. She was a proud Pittsburgh Sports Fan all of her life.
Friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St Westfield on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union St. Westfield at 11 AM. Interment will be made in St. Dominic Cemetery.
