WESTFIELD - Carleton R. Wagner, age 87, of Bliss St., Westfield, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Absolut Care of Westfield following a brief illness. Carleton was born on October 29, 1927 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Stance and Ethel (Walker) Wagner, Sr. A Westfield resident most all his life, Carleton was a 1945 graduate of Brocton Central High School and had worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road until he entered the US Army. He served in the Army during WW II and the Korean war from July 31, 1946 to November 02, 1951. Following the Army he started his 40 plus year career as a truck driver. Carleton had worked for Westfield-Sommers Foods, Worcester Motor Lines and Hills Trucking, Inc. He logged over 4 million miles. His hobbies included yard work, gardening and square dancing. Mr. Wagner was a faithful member of the Lakeshore Assembly of God and was an active participant in the Church's Men's Ministries and the Church council. Carleton was the meticulous chairman of the Building and Grounds crew at the church and took great pride in his work. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118, of Westfield and a life member of the Mayville VFW. He is survived by his wife: Evelyn Jane (Franklin) Wagner, whom he married on April 12, 1952, his two daughters: Candace Carroll of Chico, CA, and Melinda Wagner of Columbus, OH and his two sons: Timothy (Susan) Wagner and Brian (Cheryl) Wagner both of Portland, NY. 5 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and his brother Harry Hipwell of Westfield also survive. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne (Frank) Twombly who died on March 28,1995, his Foster Parents, Rufus and Inace Hipwell, his two sisters, Catherine Skimski and Gertrude Fulton and by his three brothers, Richard Wagner, Stance Wagner, Jr., and Warren Wagner. Friends may call on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 4-7 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Wednesday February 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at The Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 East Main Street, Westfield, NY with Rev. Vincent Sanzo officiating. Private burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Assembly of God, 252 East Main Street, The Westfield Vol. Fire Dept Memorial Fund, 23 Elm Street, both of Westfield, NY 14787 or to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
