Obituary of Elvy M. Williams

WESTFIELD - Elvy M. (nee Hoerner) Williams, age 92, of Westfield, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Absolut Care of Westfield. Elvy was born on March 19, 1922 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late Wallace F. and Louise M. (Bartlett) Hoerner. Elvy graduated from Cherry Creek High School with the class of 1941. To aid in the effort to support troops and the WW II "War Effort", Elvy went to work at the Curtiss Wright Airplane Company where she worked as a riveter working on the Wings of Aircraft. She had also been employed at Buffalo Arms Company where she drilled Gun Barrels and was also a nurse's aide at Sisters Hospital of Buffalo. Post war, she married her love, Earl R. Williams, on June 12, 1943 in Buffalo and they started their life together in Wales Center, NY. They moved to Hamburg, NY in 1955 where they ran Elvy's Motel on Southwestern Blvd. for many years. Upon retirement they bought rental properties in Mayville, NY and Stowe, NY, where they did "fishing camp rentals" until the early 1990's. Elvy had taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of East Aurora for 12 years, and was a current member of The First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield. She had been a member of The Women of the Moose of East Aurora, NY where she held every office during the 1940-50's. Elvy helped with the Mayville Food Kitchen, she belonged to the home bureau, and loved to crochet. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the WBA and was a high scorer and competed in 2 tournaments in Las Vegas, NV. She loved to garden and was known for her large vegetable garden, and was an accomplished seamstress, who enjoyed sewing for her family. Family was everything to Elvy. She had enormous love and pride for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter: Elizabeth (Michael) Cluchey of Westfield, NY, her three sons: Earl (Linda) Williams of Westfield, NY, Eugene (Brenda) Williams of Florida, Edwin (Pat) Williams of Phoenix, AZ; her sister: Mabel O'Brian of Center Valley, CA, and by her 16 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years, Earl R. Williams, who died June 25, 2003, and by her five brothers, Richard, Robert, Wallace, Joseph and Fredrick Hoerner, and by her five sisters, Florence Hoerner, Elizabeth Franklin, Helen Roeser, Louise Reuman and Celestine Friedman. Friends may call on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 11 AM at The First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield, 49 So. Portage St., Westfield, NY with Rev. Dana Vaughn officiating. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Wales Center, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue, 7540 North Gale St., Westfield, NY 14787 or to The First Presbyterian Church of Westfield, 49 So.
