WESTFIELD - Deacon William J. Boneberg, III, of So. Water St., Westfield, NY, formerly of Lancaster, NY was suddenly called to eternal rest at the age of 62. Bill was born on November 2, 1951 in Buffalo, NY a son of William J. and Mary Jane (VanDick) Boneberg, Jr. of Cheektowaga, NY. Bill was raised in Cheektowaga and was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Turner High School. He had been employed by National Grid, the former Niagara Mohawk Power Company where he retired as the superintendent of Transmission and Distribution. He then was appointed by the Village of Westfield to head up their Municipal Electric Department as Superintendent where he worked up until his death. Deacon Bill, as he was known, was devoted to his Roman Catholic faith and became an Ordained Deacon in the Church five years ago. He dedicated his life to serving the Faith Communities of Westfield, Brocton and Ripley, NY as well as ministering to the local nursing homes and the elderly. He volunteered countless hours to many area charities and to people of need. Bill was truly a giving person. He loved his NY Yankees but most of all he loved his family. His grandchildren provided the constant twinkle in his eyes. They loved playing with Papa and he in turn loved every minute he spent with them. Besides his mother and father, William and Mary Jane Boneberg, Bill is survived by his wife of 38 years: Susan (Zalenski) Boneberg, whom he married on April 30, 1976 at St. Lawrence Parish in Buffalo, his two daughters: Kelly (Matthew) Thies of Portland, NY, and Caryn (Jack) Burgess of Westfield, NY his two nieces, Jennifer (Thomas) Etzel of Lancaster, NY, and Kristen Kelly of Cheektowaga, NY. Bill was the very proud Papa of, Madyson, Molly, Benton and future granddaughter, baby Bria . He is further survived by his two brothers, Brian and Glenn Boneberg. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce.. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 27 from 2-7 PM at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, August 28, 2014 at 11 AM with Father Joseph Walter officiating and Deacon Paul Weisenburger presiding.
