WESTFIELD - Rev. Loyd Henry Veit, 91, formerly of 83 Spring Street in Westfield, NY, passed away at Absolut Care in Westfield on September 19, 2013. Born on March 27, 1922 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, Loyd was the son of the late George Henry and Frieda (Schmidt) Veit. Survivors include his wife, Doris (Gilman) Veit, his two daughters: Andrea (Bobby Dean) Hood of Altamont, TN and Ruth (Todd) Osborne of Honeoye, NY and eight step-children: Karl (Karen) Kenney of Norfolk, VA, Patrick (Diane) Kenney of Dansville, NY, Gloria (Tommy) Jones of Huntsville, AL, Gail (Tracy) Lawson of Dalton, NY, Pauline Emilson of Westfield, NY, Katherine Kenney of Arkport, NY, Andrew Kenney of Westfield, NY and Edward (Tracy) Kenney of Mt. Morris, NY. Also surviving are his sister, Georgiana Hagen of Ridley Park, PA, 3 grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Loyd was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Williams who passed away in 1990, his brother Wilbert of Brick, NJ ,and his daughter Linda (Harvey) Hall who passed away in 2006. Loyd was proud to have served with the United States Coast Guard stationed in Japan during World War II. He retired from Graco Children's products in 1992. His greater vocation was his ministry as a Full Gospel Pentecostal Minister. Loyd and his wife, Doris, were instrumental in starting a Gospel singing group called "The Ambassadors". This was a music ministry of 10 retirees who performed in nursing homes throughout Western New York over a period of 10 years. There will be a memorial service for Loyd at Absolut of Westfield on Sunday, October 6 at 2:30 PM. Memorials may be made to a music ministry of one's choice.
