WESTFIELD - Clyde E. "Denny" Kittle, age 99, of Westfield, died Thursday morning, April 18, 2013 at Absolut Care of Westfield in Westfield, NY. Clyde was born on December 12, 1913 in Margaretville, NY. the son of the late Edward J. and Lottie (Reside) Kittle. Born and raised in Margaretville, "Denny" was a 1932 graduate of Margaretville High School. He served in the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1946 during World War II. Clyde enjoyed a distinguished Military career with the US Army AG's office and then with the STAT Control of the Army Air Corps during WW II earning the rank of Lt. Colonel prior to his retirement. Upon his discharge, he continued his career in computers with IBM Corp., where he had been employed prior to the war. While with IBM he was assigned to the Jamestown, NY office and was in charge of all sales and installations of IBM equipment in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties of NY as well as 5 Counties in NW Pennsylvania. Local assignments included Welch Foods, and Ajax, Inc. He enjoyed his 29 years of service with IBM retiring in 1971. Clyde had been active in many civic affairs including the Jamestown Babe Ruth Organization and the Jamestown Optimist Club and had been a member of the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion of Westfield. He enjoyed golf, deer hunting and traveling. But most of all, he enjoyed his family. Upon his retirement from IBM he and his wife Erma moved to Sarasota Florida where they enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement living. He returned to Western New York following her death. Mr. Kittle was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Society of Westfield. Survivors include his two sons: Thomas (Linda) Kittle of Blanchester, OH, Gerald "Jerry" (Barbara) Kittle of Westfield, NY, his one daughter: Janet K. Snow of Westfield, NY, his 7 Grandchildren Sean Kittle, Jason (Monica) Traverse, Minda VanLeeuwen, Cpt. Christopher J. Kittle, US Army and his wife Abbey, Erin (Ryan) Dipzinski, Stephanie (Casey) Woodruff and Andrew (Laura) Hamm. 17 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-great grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews also survive. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Erma I. (Moore) Kittle, whom he married on October 18, 1941 in Washington, DC and who died on June 16, 2001, and by his daughter, Karen J. Kittle and his brother, Arthur Kittle. Friends may call from 4 PM until 6 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY and are invited to attend the Funeral Services there on Monday morning, April 22, 2013 at 11 AM with Rev. Stephen Morse officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Westfield. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
