Obituary of Alice Jean Hedish

WESTFIELD - Alice Jean Hedish (nee Percy), 84, of Westfield died at her summer camping retreat on the shore of Lake Erie Friday August 3, 2012. Jean was born March 22, 1928 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to J. Robert Percy and Katie Mae Stannis Percy. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, obtaining her four-year nursing degree and a Registered Nurse license. For a number of years Jean was the 3 to 11 Nursing Supervisor at Jamestown General Hospital. She was also employed as the Industrial Nurse at the Kraft Foods Fredonia facility and later as the Office Manager for Valley Neurological in Monaca, Pennsylvania. Jean was preceded in death by: her parents, the father of her children George F. Mathews, and later husbands James Newberry, Dr. William Martin, and Joseph Hedish. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Robert) Webster of Canfield Ohio, Bonita Mathews of Phoenix Arizona, Barbara (Patrick) Laird of Cozad Nebraska, Beverly Mathews of Tucson Arizona, and son David (Dale) Mathews of Westfield New York. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dustin and Jesse Morando both of Greenville South Carolina, Lorne Laird of Cozad Nebraska, Emily Laird of Tucson Arizona, Tyler (Catherine Matthews) Stein of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Sarah Stein of Santa Barbara California, George, Noah, Madison, Rachael, Levi, and Charly Mathews of Westfield New York, and her brother James (Joyce) Percy of Tucson Arizona. Jean loved her summer times on the shore of Lake Erie watching the sunsets and the activity on the lake. She also loved her pets many that were adopted from local shelters. Jean was an avid quilter having made a number of beautiful quilts for her family members. At Jean's request all services will be private.
