Obituary of CMsgt Newman RET. USAF

WESTFIELD - CMSgt Gordon R. Newman, (USAF Retired) passed away on May 17, 2012 at the age of 86. Gordon was born on August 16, 1925 in North East, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Arthur R. and Ruth (Fann) Newman He was a graduate of Westfield High School in Westfield New York and had attended Oswego College. Chief Newman served his country for 43 years in the United States Army and United States Air Force, joining the Army during World War II. After World War II, he transferred to the reserves and served continuously until reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. At the time of his retirement, Chief Newman had more time in service than any NCO in any branch of the armed forces. Chief Newman had the distinct honor of being the first Senior Enlisted Advisor; the highest enlisted position on the base, for the 910th Tactical Fighter Group at Youngstown AFB, Ohio. He also completed more than 30 years working for the Pennsylvania, New York Central, Penn Central & Conrail railroads. He is survived by his sister, Roberta Beers of Westfield NY; daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Gary Subulski of Killbuck NY; son and daughter-in-law Dean and Janet Newman of Ulysses, KS; son and daughter-in-law, MSgt (USAF Retired) Kevin and Angie Newman of San Antonio, TX; son and daughter-in-law, SSgt (USA Retired) Mark and Tracy Newman of Cheektowaga, NY; daughter Faith Newman of Victor, NY; nine grandchildren, that include; John Subulski, Donald Testa, Nicholas Testa, Scott Newman, Timothy Newman, Daniel Newman, Kimberly Subulski, Lisa Newman and Krystine Newman; as well as his two great grandchildren, Jenna and Cole Subulski. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Norma Grace (Meade) Newman, who died on January 8, 2001 and by his oldest son, Douglas Newman. Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, on Saturday, May 26, 2012, from 11:00 AM until the time of Services there at 12:00 Noon, with Rev. Virginia Carr, Rector of St. Peters Episcopal Church officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Westfield Cemetery.
