WESTFIELD - John A. "Jack" Peck, age 87, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Westfield, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at home in Vero Beach. Mr. Peck was born on January 12, 1920 in Westfield, NY a son of the late Erman and Nina (Rattan) Peck. He served with the US Army Rangers during World War II. He had been a Commodities Broker with Peck Foods, Inc. for many years. Jack attended Manlius Military Academy in Syracuse. With his brother as conductor, Jack played the bass fiddle in ?Pecks Bad Boys Band? during his teen years. They played throughout Chautauqua County where he met and befriended the now famous Lucille Ball. Jack was an avid boater who raced sailboats on Chautauqua Lake; he enjoyed golf and was an accomplished private pilot. He loved to cook and travel and enjoyed many trips with his wonderful family, whom he loved. His early years in business began when he worked with his father and brother in the family business, KayPeck Grape Processing, which had plants in Westfield, Boston, Kansas City, and Baltimore. Eventually this company became part Coca Cola Co. then Taylor Wines Jack was an entrepreneur who became President of his own Food Brokerage Business, Peck Foods, Inc., a company he ran for many years. Jack and his wife Marita, retired to Florida eight years ago after wintering there for more than 25 years. Marita died in March of 2007. He is survived by four sons: Kevin Peck of Laurel Hollow, NY, John Peck of El Paso, TX, Gregory Peck of Falls Church, VA, and Griffith Peck of Wilton, CT. Jack is also survived by his brother, Neale W. "Bud" Peck of Mayville, NY, as well as by 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Marita (Morton) Peck, whom he married in1948 and who died on March 11, 2007, and by his son, Robert Throm. Private Graveside Services will be held in Westfield Cemetery with Rev. Matthew Golibersuch officiating. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Assoc. of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, New York 14221 Funeral arrangements are by the MASON FUNERAL HOME, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, NY 14787.
