Obituary of Maxine Allessi

DUNKIRK - Maxine (Latimer) Allessi, age 82, of Dunkirk, N.Y. died peacefully, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Max and Florence (Hart) Latimer. Maxine was the widow of the late Sam Allessi, whom she married on November 26, 1952 and who died on August 31, 2005. Maxine enjoyed the time spent with her friends, the Degolier Dollies. She loved doing crossword puzzles and crocheting afghans for local hospitals and nursing homes, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her three children ; Lynn (John) Allessi-Burch of Rochester, NY, Susan (Sal) Gambino of Westfield, NY, and Margaret Allessi (Frank Vasallo) of Celeron, NY and her brother, Wally (Joan) Latimer of Fredonia, Maxine waws the proud Grandmother of; Kristy Smith, Matthew Gambino , Kyle Thoresen , Kelsy Allessi, Kevin Poppenberg, as well as six great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruthann Wunder and Betty Schwertfager. A memorial service for Maxine will be held at the Dunkirk Moose Lodge No. 89 reception hall, 296 Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk , NY on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00 am with Rev. Matthew Golibersuch of The First United Methodist Church of Westfield officiating. No prior visitation will be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Residents Council at the Chautauqua County Home, 10836 Temple Rd., Dunkirk, N.Y. 14048 or to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm & Carlton Streets, Buffalo, N.Y. 14263.
