Juanita G. Thornton, 98, of Portland, NY passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at her home.

Juanita was born on September 6, 1926 in Hermon, NY the daughter of the late Frederic and Ethel (nee

Baxter) Blandin.

Surviving are three children; Linda Hinds of Copperas Cove, TX, Gloria Kawski of Erie, Pa. and Gail

(William) Thornton Locke of Westfield, NY; four grandchildren, Libbey Locke, Brian Hinds, Yvonne

(Michael) Minton and Hope (Adam) Davis; she is also survived by six great – grandchildren and four

great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Thornton, a

granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Locke, a sister, Agnes Woodrow and a brother, Dean Blandin.

As per Juanita’s wishes, there will be no visitation and all services will be private. Private burial will be in

the Portland Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portland Fire Department 6841 West Main Street

Portland, NY.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield, NY
